The Indianola baseball and softball teams will get their shortened season started Monday evening, hosting the Newton Cardinals in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The baseball squad is coming off of a LHC title and a trip to the substate round of district play, and return several top players including pitcher Tyce Johnson and shortstop Kael Kolarik. The Indians softball team is fresh off an appearance at Fort Dodge for the state tournament, but head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports after a first round heartbreaking loss to Johnston, the Indians have some unfinished business.
“We are pumped, we are ready. We’ll see what this season brings, there are going to be a lot of obstacles. But managing through those with a good administration and good coaching staff, and educating the girls upfront about the changes to this season, I think we can make this a unique season and one that they will never forget.”
The softball game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 7pm, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15.
