Heat Index Chart
With a burst of hot and humid weather expected again this week, the National Weather Service reminds everyone to stay safe when the temperature and dew point climb to uncomfortable and even dangerous levels.
Meteorologist Cory Martin with the National Weather Service says anyone outdoors when the afternoon and evening temperatures climb above 90, with high humidity, it causes the heat index to rise. Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature, and it becomes dangerous to be outside for prolonged periods of time when that measure tops 100 degrees. Martin reminds everyone to take extra precautions during summer-time heat, including staying hydrated and taking breaks in air conditioning or shade frequently.
Heat index values will rise into the upper 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, and those planning to attend high school baseball and softball games are reminded to prepare for warmer weather.
