It was previously announced that due to the COVID-19 and social distancing regulations the Melcher-Dallas Coal Miners Committee and the Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue decided not to have this year’s Coal Miners Day. However, both the committee and fire department are still going to recognize Coal Miners Day on Saturday, June 27th.
The Fire Department will have a small local entries only parade at 7 p.m. They have decided on a larger route through town to encourage social distancing by spreading out viewers along the route. Line-up for the parade will take place at the Catholic Church at 6:45 p.m. Due to the increased size of the route the department is taking vehicle entries only. The end of the parade is at the City Park.
The Coal Miners Committee will have fireworks at dusk. The fireworks will be set off at the football field. The gates will be closed as no one will be allowed in, but the committee hopes that residents will be able to enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of their own homes and or personal gatherings.
The Annual Coal Miners Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, June 28th. It will be a shotgun start, with tee times from 8am-10am. Traditional pulled pork meal and free keg will be determined at a later date as the governor continues to clarify restrictions. Anyone interested in participating in the golf tournament is asked to call the Pleasantville Golf and Country clubhouse to reserve their tee time and ask any questions.
To participate in the parade residents are asked to contact Curt Seddon (641) 891-0594. For information regarding the golf tournament call (515) 848-5716
