The Pleasantville baseball and softball teams don’t have to wait any longer for the season to begin, as the Trojans travel to Van Meter Monday to begin the 2020 campaign. The Trojan baseball team begins their season with arguably the toughest test of any team in the state, as they’ll face 2019’s Class 2A state champions. The Bulldogs show no signs of slowing down, as they return nearly everyone from last year’s team that lost only three games. Pleasantville, who returns a fair amount of talent in their own right, will look to pull off the upset on opening night against the team who has won three straight in the series.
The Trojan softball team begins the year as the 14th-ranked team in Class 2A, and will take on defending West Central Conference champion Van Meter. It will be an opportunity for Pleasantville to get revenge after the Bulldogs defeated the Trojans on the season’s final day last year in the de facto league title game. Van Meter enters somewhat of a rebuilding phase this year, but brings in a freshman pitcher who started the majority of the games last year as an eighth grader. The teams split the series last year, but Pleasantville will try to reverse the all-time trend in a series that Van Meter owns 3-1.
The baseball game begins at 5:00 p.m., while the softball game starts at 7:00 p.m. at Van Meter High School.
