The Knoxville Senior Center Board of Directors announced that despite the Governor’s recent relaxing of guidelines regarding COVID-19 statewide, the Knoxville Senior Center will remain closed. Executive Director of the Iowa Association of Area Agencies and Aging, Joel Olah sent an email to the board stating his decision as to why senior centers across Iowa will remain closed. He said, “know that no Area Agency on Aging in Iowa will be opening Senior Centers or restarting congregate meal programs at this point in time. Taking such action would be putting some of our most vulnerable older Iowans at risk of exposure to COVID-19. We base this upon CDC guidelines and existing Iowa Department of Public Health protocols.”
Despite the Knoxville Senior Center remaining closed they will continue to provide meals for pick up as well as meals on wheels. If anyone has any questions they are asked to call the center at 641-842-6070.
