As commuters drive through road work areas throughout Marion County this summer they might be fortunate enough to see a trailer reminding them of the dangers of distracted driving. The Marion County Road Department recently applied for and received a 100% matching grant from the Iowa Municipal Workers’ Compensation Association for a distracted driving/work zone safety vehicle wrap. The department wrapped a trailer that will be used for lane closures with their temporary traffic signals. The wrap features text and phrases unique to Marion County as well as warnings reminding motorists to pay attention. According to the Road Department, the grant also included 100% of the cost for a work zone alert system to audibly, visually, and physically warn county workers when someone enters the work area.
