Six Indianola pitchers gave up 14 walks and two additional free passes as the visiting Pella Little Dutch won in blowout fashion 13-2 in five innings Tuesday evening in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Pella loaded the bases in each of their five innings at bat, but didn’t push runs across until the third when the game was blown open as Josh Miller hit a two-run double followed up by a Colby Van Gorp single. The Dutch scored another three in the fourth, with the Indians answering back after taking advantage of a pair of Pella mistakes in the field to make the score 6-2 entering the fifth. Pella batted 13 and scored seven runs to put the game away in the next half inning, with Indianola failing to score several baserunners to continue the game. Pella also stranded 14 runners in the contest. Indianola head coach Casey Aldridge tells KNIA Sports the end result isn’t hard to imagine when you can’t hit the strike zone.

“It starts on the mound. If we aren’t throwing strikes it’s hard for the defense to stay in it, if they are out there for a long time it’s hard for the dugout to stay in it, so everything starts on the mound. It wasn’t good tonight, not gonna lie. We weren’t good on the mound tonight and that led the way to everything else.”

Keagan Miedema was stellar on the mound for the Little Dutch to pick up the win, while Ethan Ellsworth was saddled with the loss for the Indians. Pella will continue on to play cross-town rival Pella Christian in a doubleheader tonight, while Indianola hosts county-rival Norwalk for a doubleheader. Game two of the Indianola-Norwalk contest can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the call. Pregame begins at approximately 7:15, with first pitch scheduled for 7:30.
