The Pella City Council held discussion about the future of large-scale projects in the community at policy and planning following their regular meeting this week. City Administrator Mike Nardini says the council honed in on the ongoing work related to the Pella Community Center and downtown infrastructure. Nardini says the session was necessary as the city tries to navigate how each can relate to the current fiscal year budget and the next five years, and what could be done to finance the projects. Between the Pella Community Center, infrastructure downtown, and a beautification project aimed to spur development along Oskaloosa Street at the old power plant site, the cost could reach as high as $30 million, and conversation and guidance was held as to how to pay for those, which could even include a referendum of voters.
