Summer has officially arrived as June 20th marks the start of the season as it is the day in which the summer solstice falls. The solstice occurs when the sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky, and marks the start of summer in the northern half of the globe. The summer solstice will occur at 4:44 p.m. today. Today will also be the longest day of the year or the day in which the sun will be in the sky for the longest amount of time with sunrise expected at 5:39 a.m. and sunset set for 8:49 p.m. The astronomical summer lasts until the autumnal equinox, which this year lands on Tuesday, September 22nd.
