Two area softball teams competed in a tournament at North Mahaska High School Saturday. Twin Cedars went 2-0 on the day, with wins over Pleasantville and the hosting Warhawks. The Trojans went 1-1.
Pleasantville opened the triangular with a 12-9 win over North Mahaska. A wild first inning saw the Warhawks take a 6-4 lead after the opening frame. The Trojans outscored North Mahaska 4-3 in the third, and tacked on four more in the fifth to conclude the scoring in a back-and-forth affair.
The two Marion County schools faced off in a back and forth contest. A winner could not be decided after seven innings, pushing the game into extras tied at three. After Pleasantville was unable to score in the top of the eighth, the Sabers walked it off in the bottom of the frame, courtesy of a two-run homer from Grace Bailey for a 5-3 final.
The Sabers continued the afternoon with a contest against #14 in 1A North Mahaska, and Twin Cedars was dominant from start to finish in a 9-1 victory.
Both teams are back in action on Monday. Pleasantville heads to Earlham, while Twin Cedars is at home to take on Van Meter in a doubleheader.
