In both games, the Pella Christian baseball team took a lead into the late innings, but came away on the wrong side of several high-scoring innings against Indianola, as the Indians swept the Eagles 8-3 and 19-9 in a nearly six-hour doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA Monday evening.
Pella Christian struck first in both games — stranding 12 Indianola runners in the first five innings of game one and holding the road team to just one tally in the first six innings of game two.
But in both contests, the Eagles had costly errors that spurred the Indians to rally — including in a five-run sixth in game one, and an eight-run rally in the top of the 7th in game two.
Pella Christian was able to tie the second contest with a four-run bottom of the 7th, but the Indians scored seven runs before recording an out in the 8th inning to take control.
The Indians improve to 4-3 overall, while the Eagles drop to 1-4. Both teams are off today, and Pella Christian will take on Grinnell Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park while the Indians head to DCG Wednesday.
