Due to wet weather conditions from late Sunday into early Monday, PCM’s scheduled baseball and softball games against Gilbert on Monday have been postponed. The Mustangs were originally scheduled to host the Tigers for one game each on Monday, but will now turn the single games at Gilbert on July 6th into doubleheaders for each team.
After Monday’s postponement, the PCM softball team will begin a busy week of games this evening. It’ll be an all-Jasper County matchup, as the Mustangs will make the short road trip to Lynnville-Sully for a non-conference tilt. It will be a tough test for the youthful Mustangs, as the Hawks boast the #6 ranking in Class 1A. Lynnville-Sully is an offensive juggernaut, with seven players above a .350 average, and two of those are above .500. As a team, the Hawks have scored over 10 runs per game this season. PCM head coach Shaun Hudnut says that the Hawks are a team that executes a small-ball style of play to perfection, and is excited for the opportunity to take on a prestigious program.
“Lynnville-Sully is a powerhouse 1A program. And the people that play them and know them know they execute the small-ball game extremely well. So getting them on the schedule is definitely a benefit for us to see a team that does that, and give us that experience for if we run into that later.”
Lynnville-Sully is off to a 5-0 start to the season, and are coming off a 6-2 win over Grinnell on Saturday. PCM enters the matchup with a record of 1-3, with five days since a loss to Roland-Story.
Tonight’s game is slated for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch at Lynnville-Sully High School in Sully.
