The Pella baseball team’s bats remained quiet until the final innings of game two in a conference doubleheader Monday, splitting with Norwalk on the road by dropping the first contest 3-1 but coming back for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
Jason Knox was stellar for the Dutch in his second start of the season, but just three hits from the Dutch bats and two costly errors allowed the Warriors to settle in and dominate. Knox finished with one earned run in six innings. Game two was shaping up similarly, as Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says after another slow start offensively, we found some life in the 6th to get back in the game after trailing 4-0. RBI singles by River Baker and Colby Van Gorp set the table for the 7th, when Nick Grandia singled with two outs and nobody on. Drew Hillman, with the Dutch down to their final strike, hit a 3-run triple to center to give Pella the lead.Clayton Cummings got the win in relief and Keegan Hansen closed the door with a 1-2-3 7th inning to earn the save.

The Lady Dutch couldn’t find offensive traction against Norwalk in a sweep by the Warriors, falling 7-0 and 5-3. After just scratching out two hits and giving up five unearned runs in the opener, Pella was able to keep it close behind 5 ⅔ of 1 run-softball thrown by Taylor Tousey. After keeping it tied through 5 ½ innings, the Lady Dutch gave up a four spot but staged a rally in the 7th, scoring twice before the game ended. Brynnlin Kroyman finished with four hits between the two games. Pella heads to Knoxville for Red Rock Rivalry softball, with first pitch at 7 p.m. and pregame at 6:45 on 95.3 KNIA.
