A pair of games are ahead for the Indianola boys and girls of summer this evening, as the Indians travel to Dallas Center-Grimes High School for a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup. The Indians baseball squad is fresh off of a doubleheader sweep of Pella Christian on Monday which put them back over .500, and take on a Mustangs squad that has yet to drop a contest and sits atop the conference standings. The #7 in class 5A Indians softball squad is undefeated on the season, and face a #4 in class 4A Fillies team that has an equally impressive resume with only one loss to #1 Carlisle. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports her team has played well defensively, which is attributed to pitcher Kate Kralik getting ahead of batters.
“On defense, we tell them to not get sedentary and to be ready for action at all times. It does help in an 0-2 count, Kate has good control so they know and they are reading the same signals Kate gets. It gives confidence to them, but at the same time Kate knows she has a defense behind her. All of it works well together.”
The softball game can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage starts at approximately 7pm.
