*UPDATE at 10am*
Tonight’s Indianola baseball game against Gilbert at Principal Park has been postponed due to a member of the Principal Park staff testing positive for COVID-19. More info about reschedule date will be sent out when available.
The Indianola softball team stayed undefeated on the season after a shutout of Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday evening in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The No. 7 in Class 5A Indians got ahead early off the back of a 1st inning 2-run home run from Macie Mays, which would be all the offense needed to hold off a strong Fillies squad. Pitcher Kate Kralik struck out four and forced 13 fly ball outs to pick up the win, moving to 4-0 on the season and has yet to give up a run. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the chemistry between Kralik and catcher Mara Bishop continues to develop.
“Kate did a phenomenal job, and Mara behind the dish did a great job as well. That girl has been working really hard. Kate has a lot of spin on her ball and her movement is fantastic. She has a lot that goes in the dirt and a lot that goes outside and up, and Mara in return has to be ready for all of that. You could tell tonight that Kate was mixing a lot of pitches, and she had that opportunity because she got to a lot of 0-2 counts right out of the bat. That allowed her to have a lot of freedom in her pitches and allowed her to get into her comfort zone. She was fantastic tonight.”
Selia Becker had two hits to lead the Indians offense at the plate. The Indians are now 7-0 on the season, and they will next host a doubleheader against Grinnell on Friday.
The Indians baseball squad also got an early lead at DCG, but couldn’t hold on in a 5-1 defeat. The Indians scored first, pushing across a run in the 2nd, but gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th to fall behind. Indianola got runners on late, but couldn’t convert them into runs. The loss drops the Indians to 4-4 on the season.
