At the end of January the Knoxville Public Library asked community members to give input as to what they would like to see on the next mural at the library. Artist Kim DeSocio was awarded the first grant for Public Art at the library by the Knoxville Heritage Community Foundation earlier this year and was the original artist who painted the mural at the library in 2006. She received input from the community and began putting those ideas together as she began work. However, due to the library being closed due to COVID-19 as well as residents being asked to social distance, work on the mural was delayed. When the library opened back up to the public, the work on the mural began again and now is only days away from being complete. According to the library, the new mural that will be in the children’s area of the library should be complete by Tuesday, July 1st.
