As families in Knoxville come together to celebrate graduations this weekend and the 4th of July next weekend, Knoxville Fire and Rescue is wanting to remind residents to stay safe while hosting family barbecues and bonfires. Knoxville Fire and Rescue Chief Cal Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News some helpful tips for residents to remember include not having a grill on a deck or next to a house to avoid a potential accident. He says the Knoxville fire ordinance is pretty broad but they ask that residents contain fires with a fire ring and to use smaller wood to build your fire and to not let the fire get too big. Chief Wyams says the main things to remember when having any type of fire is to keep proper distances as well as to always have a water source available.
