The latest unemployment numbers have been released from Iowa Workforce Development, with Warren County having dropped from their latest update on May 20th from 9.6% to 8.3%. The Iowa state average per county is at 9.7% unemployment, which is down from the 10.7% registered at the end of May. The 9.7% unemployment rate in the state continues to mark a significant jump since the beginning of the year, which was at 3.7% at the beginning of 2020, and well above the 7% mark of the spike in the last recession in 2008. The largest jump in initial claims rose from just over 2,000 on March 14th, to 40,000 the week of March 21st, and peaking at over 64,000 new claims the week of April 4th.
