The Pleasantville summer sports teams both played host to Madrid Thursday evening in West Central Conference action. The baseball team was unable to keep up their winning ways in a 9-2 loss.
Madrid scored runs in all but the second and third innings to take control of the game. Trailing 7-0 in the sixth, the Trojans were able to score their only two runs of the night. Madrid added two more in the seventh to make up the difference.
Pleasantville had just five base hits in the game, and Ben Wicks had the only RBI. Pleasantville drops to 1-7 on the season.
The Trojan softball team had better fortunes against the Tigers in a 12-2, five-inning victory. Pleasantville was scorching at the plate to start the game, with four runs each in the first and second innings. After Madrid got to within 10-2 after the fourth, Pleasantville tacked on two runs in the fifth to end the game early.
Plesantville racked up 19 base hits as a team. Amber McKinney led the way with four hits, including a double and a home run. Josie Sowers and Makenzie McGriff each had three hits as well. Maddie Orewiler pitched the complete game, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out five.
Pleasantville improves to 4-5 on the season, and has won consecutive games for the first time this season.
The softball team is back in action Saturday at a tournament in Washington. The baseball team returns to play Monday at Des Moines Christian.
