The PCM summer sports teams returned to conference play Friday evening, traveling to take on Nevada to conclude the second week of the season. The softball team committed three errors early and was unable to dig out of an early deficit, falling to the Cubs 8-5, despite winning the hit battle.

The Cubs opened the game with a run scored in the bottom of the first, then took control with four runs in the fourth. PCM threatened in the final innings, with two runs in the sixth. A three-run homer from Riley Johannes brought the deficit down to three in the seventh, but Nevada was able to record the final out before PCM could threaten any more.

Johannes led the way at the plate with four base hits and four RBI’s. Paige Steenhoek had two base hits and an RBI. Steenhoek pitched the complete game, giving up seven hits, three walks, while recording one strikeout. PCM falls to 2-6 on the season.

The Mustang baseball team was able to shake off a frustrating loss on Thursday by dominating the Cubs in a 10-0 victory. After taking a 2-0 lead after one PCM broke the game open with four runs in the third and one in the fourth. Three more runs in the sixth were enough to close the game out, putting the run rule into effect.

PCM is back to .500 at 3-3 overall. Both teams will be back in action Monday, hosting Roland-Story.
