The Real ID act deadline has once again been extended due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The new Real ID deadline is October 1st of 2021. After the Real ID act goes into effect, residents will need to have an officially-recognized ID card to fly commercially or gain entry onto federal property. Drivers licenses which are compliant with Real ID resemble a normal license; the only difference is a yellow star insignia imprinted on the card, which tells authorities the bearer’s identification has been verified. To obtain a Real ID certain documentation must be provided to establish your identity.
