Those planning to celebrate the 4th of July are reminded to do so safely. Lt. Paul Haase with the Pella Police Department says extra enforcement will be on the roads to look for those speeding, not wearing seat belts, and operating while distracted or intoxicated. Anyone drinking alcohol is reminded to designate a driver, find a taxi or rideshare, or make plans to stay overnight. He also says everyone planning to drive near Central Park should take extra caution with many pedestrians expected, and to be prepared for delays due to road closures related to Independence Day activities. Additionally, Haase reminds everyone in the Pella City Limits that using fireworks is not permitted under city code.
