The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released regional brackets for all five classes Wednesday afternoon.
In Class 4A — Pella and Knoxville will renew their rivalry in the region four opener on July 16th. The Panthers knocked off Pella at home with a pair of big innings on June 23rd in a 10-6 win, but the Lady Dutch have otherwise controlled the series, winning 11 of the 16 matchups since the 2010 season. The winner of the Red Rock Rivalry will advance to play No. 1 Carlisle.
Class 2A will also feature two local teams clashing, as Pleasantville will host Pella Christian on July 13th in region four. No. 11 Interstate 35 will host the winner of the Marion County showdown after a bye.
No. 9 in Class 5A Indianola is the two-seed in Class 5A region three, and will open against Dowling on July 18th. If they advance, No. 6 Valley likely awaits in the regional final.
PCM travels to Nevada to open in Class 3A Region 4 on July 15th. Twin Cedars is now the 12th ranked team in Class 1A, and is in region 3 and awaits the winner of Diagonal and Mormon Trail — two teams they beat a combined 36-2 in the regular season. In Class 1A region 5, Melcher-Dallas is an opening round host against Murray on July 13th — their regular season game was suspended and will resume on July 3rd.
Pella, Knoxville, Pella Christian, and Indianola will all be featured live on KNIA and KRLS throughout the 2020 postseason, and regular updates and reports will be given about the rest of the local teams competing for the chance to advance to state.
