Marion County has the 7th highest participation rate in Iowa in the 2020 census.

The City of Pella has 75.2% and Knoxville has 67.1% of residents who have taken part in the count of the national population that occurs every 10 years. Deputy Regional Director for the U.S. Census Bureau Chicago Region Ellisa Johnson encourages everyone to respond either online or by mail to make sure they are counted and properly represented.

The state of Iowa has the 4th highest census response rate in the nation at 68%. Census takers are working with administrators at colleges, senior centers, prisons, and other facilities that house large groups of people to make sure everyone is counted. From August 11th through October 31st, census takers will interview homes that haven’t responded online or by mail. The U.S. Census Bureau will deliver apportionment counts to the President and Congress as required by law in December.
