During Monday’s Knoxville city council meeting the council discussed a potential amendment to the city’s code of ordinances regarding camping within city limits. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the reason the council continues to discuss camping regulations in the city is because the city continues to receive requests from home owners near the Knoxville Raceway who would like camping hookups installed on their property. He says the city wants to make sure they are preserving the property rights and quality of life for the people who live in the community that might not be expecting to live next to a future campground. He says the city wants to continue to provide camping spaces for visitors during the Nationals but from a city perspective the question for the city is if they want campgrounds throughout the community.
Adams says the council did not take any action regarding the potential camping code amendment and instead sent the amendment back to the city’s planning and zoning committee for adjustments. He says the council also expressed interest in holding a joint meeting with the committee to refine the idea, continue the conversation and get the amendment right.
