As a return to school draws near, the Pella Community Food Shelf aims to be a resource for those in need throughout the area.

Executive Director Melissa Zula says in a typical year, late July into mid August tends to be the highest in terms of demand for food and supplies, and that’s especially true this year with the unemployment rate skyrocketing in the spring due to closures related to COVID-19.

Zula says any families in need of school supplies should contact the Pella Community Food Shelf to ensure they are ready for classes to begin. At this time, Zula says the best way to support those projects is through monetary donations, which can be done via check or by Venmo.
