The Indianola baseball team fell in a pair of one-run games to the Lynx of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Monday evening 5-4 and 11-10 with game two heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians got ahead early in game one with RBI singles from Kael Kolarik and Carter Erickson to take a 2-1 lead, but four unanswered runs by the Lynx put them up 5-2. Indianola struck back in the bottom of the fifth scoring a pair of runs off of an RBI single from Gabe Zwanziger, and a sacrifice fly from Erickson, but that would be all the Indians offense could muster in the defeat.
Game two was a back and forth affair, with the Indians down early 2-0 after the top of the first, but got a run back from a Kolarik RBI single in the first to trail 2-1 going into the second. The Indians exploded for five runs in the second, with RBI hits from Brady Blake, Will Young, and Tyce Johnson. The back and forth contest continued, with the Lynx answering immediately tying the score at 6 in the third then adding another pair of runs in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead. To match, the Indians put across another four in the bottom half of the inning with doubles from Blake, Erikcson, and Tyce Johnson, as well as a sacrifice fly from Zwanziger and an RBI single from Ethan Ellsworth taking a 10-8 lead. To respond, the Lynx scored another two runs in the fifth to tie the score at 10 apiece, then put across the winning run in the top of the seventh to claim victory. Head coach Casey Aldridge tells KNIA Sports the Indians need to put it all together as the season draws to a close.
“We’re improving, definitely improving. We need to be more consistent, that’s what we need to do. There are parts of our game that are more consistent, our at-bats are definitely better than they were at the beginning of the year, defense and pitching have to be more consistent for us if we want to move on.”
The Indians fall to 10-11 on the season, and play a doubleheader at Sioux City East this evening at 4pm.
The Indians softball team will resume their season tonight after a week off after a positive COVID-19 test, traveling to play the Dodgers at Fort Dodge. The game begins at 6pm.
