The New PCM Superintendent shared the following letter with parents and families in the district:

I am extremely honored and grateful to have been selected by the PCM Board of Directors and interview committee partners to be your new Superintendent. While the last couple of weeks have certainly been a flurry with the quick move, my husband, Tim, and I are temporarily settled and we look forward to meeting students, faculty, and community members.

I wanted to provide a brief update about the PCM Return to Learn Plan. The PCM administration and directors are committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff and community members. We strongly desire to have students return to the school-based, on-site learning environment on August 24th. At this time, we are working diligently to ensure proper safety precautions are in place throughout the school district.

Please be aware, the COVID 19 pandemic is an evolving situation. The decisions made today may likely be invalid days or weeks from now. We will continue to work closely with our public health officials, education partners, and community government officials. Should it be deemed unsafe to return all students and staff to the school buildings, we will implement either a hybrid or virtual (remote) learning environment. Together, we must be flexible and responsive, with the understanding that the learning format may change throughout the school year.

At this time, we are asking for your assistance to help us prepare for the 20-21 school year. Please consider the following:

1. Online registration is available and we ask that you register your student(s) as soon as possible.

2. Contact your building administrator if you are concerned about having your student return to the school-based learning environment. We will work with you and your family to establish an individualized remote learning plan.

3. We know that we will have a shortage of substitutes in the area of transportation (bus drivers), support staff (associates) and substitute teachers. If you know of anyone willing or interested, contact Erin at the district office for application information.

4. Please be diligent in implementing mitigation strategies such as hand washing, social distancing, staying home if you are not feeling well, and wearing a mask when in close proximity to others. We need to work together to slow the spread of this virus. (One thing is for certain—an outbreak in our area will impact the reopening of our schools.)

Finally, I plan to provide more frequent updates and communication with our students, staff and community members as this situation evolves throughout the remainder of the summer and into the fall. At the bottom of this memo, you will find dates that you can expect communication from me about the PCM Return to Learn Plan. However, in the meantime, should you have questions, please feel free to contact your student’s building administrator or myself.

In closing, I am very excited to meet everyone and work together towards continued, “Excellence for All, Excellence from All.” Please stop by and introduce yourself.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Michelle Havenstrite

PCM Superintendent
