The Twin Cedars Softball Squad starts what it hopes to be the road to Fort Dodge in the class 1A regional quarterfinals tonight. The Sabers are the second seed in region three and play host to a Diagonal squad that they have already crushed once this season 15-0. The Sabers have been known for their hitting as they rank sixth in 1A with a .375 average and regardless of class Twin Cedars comes in at number 27. Coach Zack Dunkin says it all begins with leadoff hitter Rylee Dunkin and her speed to get on base and set the tone.

Dunkin:
“Rylee Dunkin starts us if she can get on base, I don’t know the percentage but if she can get on base , she usually scores. Then Grace Bailey, Ali Mockenhaupt, and Brooke Roby are usually in the 375-400 range and work counts really well.”

Rylee Dunkin leads the Sabers with a .481 average and is joined by six other girls who average at least .400 or better. Diagonal, on the other hand has had trouble scoring and has struggled to keep teams from scoring as the Maroons are giving up 12.4 runs per game, and allowed Twin Cedars to score 15 in a game back on June 30th. Twin Cedars has also won the last ten meetings. First pitch is scheduled for seven. The winner gets the survivor of the Central Decatur and Stanton game on Friday in the regional semi-final.
