Thermometers will be on the rise this weekend and a hot and humid air mass moves back into the state. Temperatures into the 90s are expected on Saturday with humidity levels pushing the apparent temperature from 100 to 110 degrees in most of central Iowa by afternoon. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, but mainly in central and southern Iowa as slightly cooler air is expected across the north. All residents are reminded to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks in shade or air conditioning when outdoors. Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella reminds all pet owners to also keep a close eye on their animals, especially as it relates to outdoor activities.
Additionally, all are reminded to never leave a child or pet in a car unattended, as interior temperatures inside vehicles can climb 20 or more degrees in as little as 10 minutes.
