The Pella City Council held a discussion about the future of strategic projects at a special meeting Tuesday. City administration reintroduced the following initiatives to council, and conversation stretched over an hour and a half:

– Community Center renovations
– Indoor recreation facility
– Childcare facility
– Beautification project at the former Power Plant site
– Dog park
– Disc golf course at Big Rock Park

No formal decisions were made, but council will receive a presentation at policy and planning following their regular meeting on July 22nd about Big Rock Park, and indicated a desire to see more immediate term movement on the Oskaloosa Street corridor development project, while keeping long-term plans moving for the Community Center renovations and potential indoor recreation or childcare facilities, which could be tied into the community center.

Councilmember Liz Sporrer mentioned that she and Dave Hopkins are still reviewing potential sites for a dog park, and plan on making a recommendation to the rest of the council at some point in the near future.
