The Pella Christian softball team continued their postseason run Thursday evening with a trip to Truro to take on Interstate 35. The Eagles dispatched the Roadrunners in dominant fashion, 16-3, as heard live on KRLS3.

The Eagles got the scoring underway right away, courtesy of a Natalie Harrill RBI in the top of the first. Harrill drove in two more runs in the third, which helped set the tone for the rest of the way.

Interstate 35 struck back with their first run in the bottom of the frame, but Pella Christian kept the foot on the pedal, scoring three more in the fifth and two in the sixth for an 8-1 lead.

The PC bats put on a clinic in the seventh with eight runs scored to remove any doubt. Seven of those runs came with two outs. The Roadrunners answered with a brief two-run rally, but fell well short of a miraculous comeback. Head Coach Karen Harrill says her team performed well in every aspect of the game, leading to the impressive victory.

“I really think we did well in all three facets. Cheyanne just pitched a really good game. Our defense was behind her completely all game. And then our bats just came alive, I think everyone hit except for maybe one. I was so impressed with how we continued to hit against a very very good team. They’ve got a great defense, they got amazing arms, I mean they’re just rockets. To just continue to hit those gaps and hit those gaps, there’s not a lot we can do about that. It just was a good game all around.”

In total, the Eagles picked up 18 base hits and committed just one error. Emri Agre led the way at the plate with four hits and three RBI. Chloe Morgan also had four hits and scored four times. In the circle, Cheyanne Collins gave up five hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Pella Christian is now 10-8, and advances to the regional semifinal round tonight. It’s a road trip to East Marshall, a game that will air live on 92.1 KRLS. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., with the opening pitch at 7:00 at East Marshall High School in Le Grand.
