Residents in Knoxville will see Community Service Officers with the Knoxville Police Department in their neighborhoods this week as the department begins the second annual Operation Clean Sweep. Operation Clean Sweep began last year as a way to help make the city more presentable to visiting race fans. Last year’s program included every property in Knoxville and made residents aware of portions of their property that may have needed to be cleaned or repaired. Community Service Officer Arlene Worrall tells KNIA/KRLS News the department will work with residents when it comes to making corrections to their property. She says the city codes that cover smaller things like mowing of lawns is a 48 hour code, meaning residents have 48 hours to fix the problem. She says when it comes to bigger projects such as painting the city will work with residents and establish a timeframe in which the correction needs to be completed.

Worrall says this year’s program should be quicker and easier to complete as the program will not cover all of Knoxville but rather certain areas of town where the department knows corrections are needed.
