This weekend marks the four-year anniversary of the Pleasantville baseball team’s second consecutive trip to the state baseball tournament. The Trojans entered the tournament with a 28-9 record, and defeated Dyersville Beckman 3-1 in a quarterfinal round matchup. The Trojans took a lead in the third inning and never looked back, courtesy of two big plays involving future Iowa Hawkeye baseball star Zeb Adreon.
Adreon’s run scored put Pleasantville up 1-0, with the Trojans eventually going up 2-1 before adding an insurance run in the fifth to conclude the scoring. Adreon finished with three base hits in the game – a single, a double and a triple. He also picked up the win on the mound, giving up just three base hits and striking out 10 batters in a stellar performance in a big game. Pleasantville would go on to fall in the semifinal round to Carroll Kuemper to conclude the season.
