Hot and humid conditions will persist across southern Iowa today ahead of an approaching cold front that will be in northern Iowa in the morning. Thunderstorms are expected to develop across much of central Iowa by late afternoon with strong to possibly a few severe storms. The main concern would be from damaging wind gusts along with some locally heavy rain that would mainly impact urban areas. The storms will push slowly south into Sunday night and move south of the state by midday Monday. Cooler temperatures and lower humidity are then expected for the early part of next week.
