Habitat for Humanity of Marion County has recently completed a house construction project in Pleasantville. While the organization will continue to build new homes throughout the county, COVID-19 has caused the main focus of the group to shift. Director Robin Pfalzgraf says that over the course of the next year, Habitat will focus on keeping people in their houses by ensuring that those in need can have regular maintenance done without forcing people to relocate.
“There are so many people who live in a home who live in a fixed income situation, but something happens. Your roof needs to be replaced, you’re having a problem with your electrical, you have a septic problem or a plumbing problem that is just more than you know how to handle. That’s where we’re headed, at least for the next year or so. We want to work on helping people stay in their houses. Our goal is to keep people in their houses. It’s good for them, it’s good for their family, and it’s good for the city.”
