We begin our countdown of the top ten sports moments at Knoxville for the 2019/2020 school year. Call it “The Comeback Part Two.” On September 24th the Knoxville Volleyball Squad put its 14-0 start to the season on the line in Eddyville to face the Rockets in a key midseason South Central Conference match. The match started off well enough for Knoxville winning set one 25-23, but then, the Panthers dropped two straight sets and found their backs against the wall down 2-1. It did not get any better as Knoxville was a mere six points from losing its first match of the season down 19-10. From that moment on, it was all Knoxville as the Panthers stormed back to take set four 25-23 and then dominated the fifth and deciding set 15-6. A few days after that match, junior player Amy Sullivan told KRLS Sports she had faith in her teammates that they could pull out the win.
Sullivan:
“It was obviously stressful, I was like ‘Oh no,’ but I believed we could do it. We go over stuff in practice and situational things and learn to fight back in practice and it really showed in the game.”
The Panthers would go on to complete an unbeaten South Central Conference title season and finish with a final record of 25-8 while hanging out in the class 4A rankings getting as high as eighth midseason before finishing the season ranked 12th.
