Continuing with our countdown of the top 10 moments of the 2019-2020 school year, we go back less than a month ago to what could be the wildest baseball game of the year in our area. On July 2nd, PCM played host to Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
The Mustangs dominated the first two innings, scoring five in the first and eight in the second for a 13-0 lead after two. Saydel had a brief answer in the fourth, but PCM took a 14-2 lead into the top of the fifth inning. All the Mustangs needed was three outs to end it in five innings. That’s when the tides turned, as Saydel scored 10 runs in the inning to get to within 14-12. PCM was held off the board in their half of the fifth, and the score remained the same going to the bottom of the sixth. That’s when PCM scored eight runs to end it in six, with a 22-12 final score. PCM held the lead the entire time, but there were undoubtedly some tense moments.
The Mustangs used only three pitchers in the game, and Caleb Duinink had five base hits. Andrew Mitchell chimed in with 4 RBI’s. The Mustangs went on to finish 7-9 overall, with six seniors graduating from the program.
