Naig’s Buzzer Beater Gives Pella Road Win at Fairfield
—
The No. 9 moment in the Pella High School 2019-20 top ten countdown takes us back to December, with buzzer-beating magic on the road for the Lady Dutch basketball team. While the winter proved to be up and down for a Pella team building an identity of their own after several rounds of talented graduating seniors had departed the program, Pella’s most experienced player gave them a key early win on the road.
On December 18th, the Lady Dutch clashed with Fairfield in a game that featured a pair of fairly evenly-matched teams, and it took until the final horn sounded to determine a winner. The Lady Dutch had the ball last, and Madison Naig sealed the 54-52 victory with a midrange baseline jumper.
While it originally was waved off, Naig’s jumper was counted, and she finished with a game-high 23 points. In her second season of starting, Pella Junior Madison Naig was perhaps the most consistent starter and scorer for the Lady Dutch in 2019-20, averaging 12.3 points per game, and earned a spot on the first-ever KNIA/KRLS All-Girls Basketball Team as well as her second trip to the All-Little Hawkeye Conference second team.
