PCM’s #5 moment brings us back to February 15th, when three Mustang wrestlers qualified for the state tournament. PCM traveled to Knoxville for the Class 2A District 5 tournament that day, and came away with two individual champions and one runner-up.

132-pounder Landon Fenton won by fall over Knoxville’s Hayden Hatch in the opening round of the weight class. In the championship match, Fenton fell in a close match, a 10-5 decision to Kayden Kauzlarich of Centerville. Fenton wrestled back in the second place match and secured his spot at state with an 8-7 decision over Peter Comer of Carlisle.

At 138, Payton Drake had a bit of an easier path to state. Drake defeated Michael Thomas of Albia in a 6-4 decision to advance to the championship match. In that match, it was a 7-3 decision in favor of Drake over Nathaniel Genobana of Centerville.

It was a dominant performance for Colby Tool at 152. Tool won by major decision 17-2 over Steve Conley of Albia. A 17-2 sudden victory over Bryce Cole of Van Meter/Earlham secured Tool’s spot at the state tournament.
