Central College wrestling senior Duncan Lee stunned the field with a title at 285 pounds in the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional on March 1st , and joined two of his teammates as qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Championships. Senior Nathan Fritz was second at 184 pounds and sophomore Rob Areyano was third at 149 pounds to qualify as well.
Lee was unranked entering the weekend but rattled off four wins to win his first regional championship and punch his ticket to the national meet for the first time. He had a 3-2 overtime win against the No. 8 ranked wrestler in the country, Wartburg’s Jordan Brandon, in the semifinals. He punctuated the weekend with a 6-5 victory over Loras’ Wyatt Wriedt in the title bout.
The NCAA Division III Championships were scheduled for March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, but were cancelled due to COVID-19. All three Dutch qualifiers were named NCAA Division III All-Americans.
