indianola-3

Today we continue the top 10 countdown of the top moments of the 2019-20 school year with number four. The Indianola girls basketball team has been a young squad for the past several years, and competes in the Little Hawkeye Conference that features some of the top teams in the state in class 4A. After an early season loss to Pella, and a late season loss to Dallas Center-Grimes, a Little Hawkeye Conference championship looked out of reach for the Indians, especially as they still had to face favorite Grinnell twice in eight days to even tie for the title. The Indians fell behind early in the first contest, but a dominant 32-point performance from Lauren Blake earned the Indians a 64-61 win, then an unexpected upset of the Tigers by Norwalk set up a conference clinching game to wrap up the regular season.

The Indians traded blows with the Tigers early leading to a 35-34 deficit at halftime, but Grinnell took over to start the third building a 10-point lead, only to see the Indians answer for a 56-55 lead going into the fourth. Battling foul trouble late the in the contest tied at 65, sophomore Emma Kluver hit a go-ahead three point shot from the corner for the Indians to take a lead they would not relinquish.

The Indians held on to win 69-65, going 16-7 on the season, and graduated only one senior from the squad.
