The #4 moment of this school year for Pleasantville was less than a month ago on the softball diamond when the Trojans played host to Knoxville. In a close battle between two Marion County schools that had not met in quite some time, it was a walkoff victory for Pleasantville.
The Trojans got things going early with three runs scored in the bottom of the first for the early advantage. That would be their only runs scored for the rest of regulation. Knoxville tacked on one run apiece in the third, fifth and sixth innings to tie it up, and a scoreless seventh sent it to extras.
The Panthers were unable to score in the top of the eighth, giving Pleasantville a chance to win it in their half of the frame. They did just that, courtesy of a home run by Amber McKinney.
That home run was the team’s second of the game, and the winning run for a 4-3 win in eight innings. Assistant coach Robert Friday said after the game that it was a resilient win for his team, and it was all-around a well-played game.
“It feels good, we needed to get back on the winning side of things, and that was a big win, Knoxville is a good team. It ended up being a great game, very few mistakes by either team, and that’s the way it ought to be. It came down to extra innings, and luckily we had enough bat power at the end to prevail.”
Both Amber and Mallory McKinney finished with two hits in the game and each had a home run. Pleasantville would go on to finish 7-11 on the season.
