indianola-3

Today we continue the top 10 countdown of the top moments of the 2019-20 school year with number three. The Indianola girls cross country team made a statement in their class 4A qualifying meet this past fall, earning a second place finish at Marshalltown amongst some of the top teams in the state to qualify for the state meet in Fort Dodge. Standout freshman Emily Naughton ran for one of her best times of the year with a second place finish, while Joey Werling, Bailey Blake, and Ashley Rockhold finished 15th, 16th, and 17th respectively, with Katie O’Neil placing 31st to round out the squad. Blake tells KNIA Sports the team dug deep to come through when they needed it.

“We just worked really hard, and it was just awesome that we all came together and ran a really good race at Marshalltown and that we could beat some of the top teams in the state that were ranked in our district. It was just awesome to see the results.”

The Indians finished 15th as a squad, with Naughton unavailable to run due to illness.
