Speech and drama at area high schools remains a large unknown as students return to class this fall. Suzi Jones is the Speech and Drama director at Pella High School, and says the last sanctioned event in Iowa on a stage likely took place in the Pella High Auditorium. After the Iowa High School Speech Association cancelled state contests, Pella and Pella Christian held a special festival for parents only on Saturday, March 14th — with students from the two schools some of the only in the state to earn All-State recognition for their individual performances. Jones says heading into the fall, there is a lot of uncertainty as it relates to what is allowed to be on stage and how many people can gather for performances, but she still hopes to provide opportunities for all who want to be a part of theater and the stage. At Pella Christian High School, auditions for PCHS’s fall musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be held Monday, August 10th.
