Iowa’s annual Tax Free Weekend begins today. Shoppers across the state will have the opportunity to purchase select items from retailers without paying the sales tax. It’s the 20th straight year that Iowa has held this event, which coincides with back-to-school shopping season. Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Director Hannah Vander Veer encourages residents to shop local during this event.

“Knoxville Chamber of Commerce just encourages people to use their tax free weekend to shop locally. A reminder that there will be a few extra visitors in town for the races this weekend and next. So it should be an exciting time where shops are hopefully making a little bit of money.”

Sales tax will not be applied to items such as clothing or footwear, provided they are priced under $100. To find a list of items that qualify for the tax exemption, click here.
