The Twin Cedars top story for the 2019/2020 school year is one runner on the girls cross country squad. Freshman Rylee Dunkin was a part of a rebuilding program for the Sabers and she immediately let everyone know that she was a contender for the state meet by setting a school record in her first meet and then breaking that record again three more times. She qualified for the state meet by finishing second overall at the Marshalltown State Qualifier and then backed up her efforts all season long at the class 1A State Meet, earning all-state with a seventh place finish. Dunkin told KRLS Sports after her state meet competition, she was challenged a little more than in the regular season with the runners and the course.

Dunkin:
“It’s a lot different with runners around me so I can compete a little more. There’s a few little hills which is something I’ve been practicing and I was stronger there, and most of the other courses have been a little more hillier but this one was a little more flatter.”

Dunkin was one of many local athletes that lost their chance at a possible state meet appearance in track and field due to spring sports being cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she came back in the summer to help the Saber softball squad, the number three moment for Twin Cedars, to a 20-6 record and a regional finals appearance in class 1A
