Heat and humidity will continue to ramp up across south central Iowa this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, highs will reach the low 90s this afternoon, with heat index values approaching topping 100 later today. Those planning to be outdoors for extended periods of time should stay hydrated, wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air conditioning.
All pet owners are reminded to check on their animals as well, and avoid strenuous activity during the peak heating hours. Chances for pop-up, isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast over the next several days as well. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for the latest weather information.
