The Knoxville school board met in regular session Monday. The board considered the implementation of the district’s Return-to-Learn plan, including specific plans for the high school, middle school, Northstar Elementary and West Elementary. A change from previous plans was a new masking requirement. All students in the Knoxville School District will now be required to wear masks at school. Board President Marty Duffy says that due to the unpredictability of the virus, the best way to move forward is to use as much caution as possible.

“The unfortunate part of this virus is, we are on a learning curve. We learn something new practically every day. It all depends on who is giving the information, as to whether it’s believable or not believable, as far as this whole thing. Once again, I think I’d like to, personally, I’ll be in favor of going on the side of caution. And then if there are difficulties, we’ll deal with those.”

Previously, only middle school and high school students were going to be required to wear masks. A Return to Activities plan was also considered. It was announced that spectators at athletic events this fall will be required to wear masks. The board considered and tabled a discussion on employee handbooks, considered and approved an Interfund Transfer Resolution, and considered and approved a high school Student Senate fundraiser.
