Two sisters who rank among the best ever to play volleyball on Eagle Lane are hoping to get one more season together in college.
A.J. Kacmarynski (Horstman) and Rebekah Horstman were part of the No. 1 ranked Northwestern Volleyball team in Orange City last fall, and both aim to be starters on this year’s team again.
A.J. will be a redshirt senior and Bekah will be a junior on a Red Raiders squad that will be heavy favorites in the preseason to compete for an NAIA National Championship — whenever that comes, if it does at all–the playoffs are currently scheduled for the spring. Both say they’ve spent the summer preparing for what will be the final time the two play together competitively — last season was the first time since their days on Eagle Lane they shared the same floor.
During her time on Eagle Lane, A.J. was a third-team all-state selection as a senior, and for the Red Raiders, was an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American; 1st team AVCA All-Region and 1st team all-conference in 2017, and an all-conference pick in 2019.
Bekah was an All-State selection in 2016 (3rd team) and 2017 (2nd team) in Class 2A while at P.C. and was the GPAC Freshman of the Year in 2019 at Northwestern. and Both sisters earned AVCA West Central Region Honorable Mention honors after the team finished in the NAIA National Quarterfinals.
